There is a oneness between man and his God. Christ is an all-sufficient Saviour.

The Cross Lifts Me. . .

"You are safe only as, in perfect submission and obedience, you connect yourselves to Christ. The yoke is easy, for Christ carries the weight. As you lifet the burden of the cross, it will become light; and
that cross is to you a pledge of eternal life. It is the privilege of each to follow gladly after Christ, exclaiming at every step, 'Thy gentleness hath made me great.' But if we would travel heavenward, we must take the Word of God as our lesson-book. In the words of inspiration we must read our lessons day by day. . . .To redeem man,
Christ became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

"The meekness and humility that characterized the lige of Christ weill be made manifest in the life and character of those who 'walk even as He walked.' " Sons and Daughters of God, p. 81.

"Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls." 1 Peter 2:24-25.

"He does not always bring us to pleasant places. If He did, in our self-sufficiency, we would forget that He is our Helper.
He longs to manifest Himself to us and to reveal the abundant supplies at our disposal; and He permits trial and disappointment to come to us, that we may realize our helplessness and learn to call upon Him for aid.
He can cause cooling streams to flow from the flint rock." Signs of the Times, Dec. 12, 1906.

"Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases." Psalms 103:2-3.

"And the apostles, when they were returned, told him all that they had done. And he took them, and went aside privately into a desert place belonging to the city called Bethsaida.
And the people, when they knew it, followed him: and he received them, and spake unto them of the kingdom of God, and healed them that had need of healing." Luke 9:10-11.

A New Leaf

He came to my desk with a quivering lip—
The Lesson was done—
"Dear teacher, I want a new leaf," he said;
"I have spoiled this one."
In place of the leaf so stained and blotted,
I gave him a new one all unspotted.
And into his sad eyes smiled—
"Do better now, my child."

I went to the throne with a quivering soul—
The old year was done—
"Dear Father, hast Thou a new leaf for me?
I have spoiled this one."
He took the old leaf, stained and blotted,
And gave me a new one all unspotted,
And into my sad heart smiled—
"Do better now, my child."

—Episcopal Recorder, January, 1893.

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9.

"He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds." Psalms 147:3.

"For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you." Matthew 6:14.

"By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another." John 13:35.

"But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live." Ezekiel 18:21-22.

"But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance." Matthew 9:13.

"And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more." Jeremiah 31:34.

"And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." John 8:32.

"Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.

Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me. Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice. Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.

Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee. Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.

O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise. For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem. Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar." (Psalms 51 KJV)

"If iniquity be in thine hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in thy tabernacles.
For then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot; yea, thou shalt be stedfast, and shalt not fear." Job 11:14–15.

"The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing." Zephaniah 3:17.

"Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance." Psalms 33:12.

"In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and for uncleanness." Zechariah 13:1.

"The LORD shall count, when he writeth up the people, that this man was born there. Selah." Psalms 87:6.

Count the Mercies!

Count the Mercies

Count the mercies! count the mercies!
Number all the gifts of love;
Keep a daily, faithful record
Of the comforts from above.

Look at all the lovely green spots
In life's weary desert way;
Think how many cooling fountains
Cheer our fainting hearts each day.

Count the mercies! count the mercies!
Count the mercies though the trials
Seem to number more each day;
Count the trias too, as mercies,
Add them to the grand array.

Trials are God's richest blessings,
Sent to prompt our upward flight
As the eagles' next, all broken,
Makes them fly to loftier heights.

Count the mercies! count the mercies!
That bring heaven within our sight,
Let us number all our jewels,
Let us estimate their worth;
Let us thank the gracious Giver,
Strewing blessings over the earth;
Let our hearts overflow with gladness.

Let us tell the wonders over,
Till our multiplying treasures
Seem a countless boundless store;
Then let praises, grateful praise,
Be our language evermore.

Comfort in AfflictionBy Elder L.D. Santee

"Lo, I am with you alway." Matthew 28:20.

There's a promise whose gladness will ever
cheer my heart in its hours of pain;
That those who love Jesus will never
Seek His presence and blessing in vain.
When the flames of affliction are highest,
And the soul is compassed with fear,
It is then that the Saviour is nightest,
And angels of comfort draw near.

"The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all. He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken." Psalms 34:17-20.

"For thou wilt save the afflicted people; but wilt bring down high looks." Psalms 18:27.

"For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath he hid his face from him; but when he cried unto him, he heard." Psalms 22:24.

"He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee." Psalms 91:4-7.

In this volume every human being has a page, on which is written the events of his life history. And from the mind of God these names are never absent for a moment. Wonderful indeed is God's love and care for the beings he has created. . . .In behalf of man God has poured out the whole treasury of heaven, and in return He expects and claims our entire affections." "But I will hope continually, and will yet praise thee more and more." But I will hope continually, and will yet praise thee more and more. Psalms 71:14.

"No deep-seated love for Jesus can dwell in the heart that does not see and realize its own sinfulness. The soul that is transformed by grace will admire His divine character; but if we do not see our own moral deformity, it is unmistakable evidence that we have not had a view of the beauty and excellence of Christ. The less we see to esteem in ourselves, the more we shall see to esteem in the infinite purity and loveliness of our Saviour. A view of our own singluness drives us to Him who can pardon.

"God does not deal with us a finite men del with one another. His thoughts are thoughts of mercy, love, and tenderest compassion. 'He will abundantly pardon.'
"He says, 'I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions.' . . .

"Look up, you who are tried, tempted, and discouraged, loop up. . . .It is ever safe to look up; it is fatal to look down, the earth reels and sways beneath you; nothing is sure. But heaven above you is calm and steady, and there is divine aid for every climber. The hand of the Inifinite is reaching over the battlements of heaven to grasp yours in its strong embrace. The mighty Helper is nigh to bless, lift up, and encourage the most erring, the most sinful, if they will look to Him by faith. But the sinner must look up." R. H., Feb. 17, 1885.
